Dr. Jenkins qualified in 2002. He has a particular interest in implant surgery and restoration, wisdom teeth, crowns, veneers and full mouth cosmetic rehabilitation.
Owen has worked as an integral part of Dental Centre Maroochydore since 2006. Having qualified in 2002 with awards for the top clinical student in Restorative Dentistry, Periodontology and Prosthetics; he spent his first few years undertaking further postgraduate training positions in oral and maxillofacial surgery, advanced restorative dentistry, periodontology and sedation dentistry.
He has a particular interest in implant surgery and restoration, bone and soft tissue grafting, wisdom tooth removal, crowns and veneers. He has significant experience in, and an extensive portfolio of complex full mouth reconstruction and cosmetic rehabilitation.
He successfully graduated from a year-long Master Clinician Program in advanced implant surgery with the global institute for dental education and Loma Linda University in California, achieving an additional certification as an Aesthetic Master Clinician. He is also one of few Australian dentists or specialists to have passed the rigorous and lengthy assessment of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh to be awarded the prestigious Diploma in Implant Dentistry.
He continues to dedicate much time to studying worldwide and furthering his knowledge and skills so that he can provide the best possible evidence based care for his patients. He is also active in improving the education of other dentists both locally and nationally in Australia through mentorship and lecturing in implant dentistry and by founding and running a regional implant dentistry study club. He also teaches an implant foundation course to dentists starting out or updating their dental implant surgery and restoration careers.
He is experienced in managing patients with dental anxiety and phobias and performs regular intravenous sedation treatment sessions at the practice. This is ideal to help make dental treatments more acceptable and manageable for those with dental anxiety, or for those patients having less pleasant procedures such as wisdom teeth removal or long procedures. He visits Nambour Selangor Private Hospital each month to perform oral surgery and dental implant procedures under General Anaesthetic.
Owen prides himself on taking the fear and uncertainty out of dental care, by ensuring all options and treatments are fully explained in language you can understand.
Away from work, Owen likes to be active and enjoy the outdoors with his family and their two Golden Retrievers. As a former rugby union player, he loves coaching his children’s rugby union team and is always happy to chat rugby. He is also very involved in surf lifesaving activities where he competes at masters level and coaches nipper competitors. He is a volunteer lifesaving patrol captain at Alexandra Headland beach.
